Cheap Shoes and Food
I got all my day old bread toasted for the stuffing this evening. Mom's birthday is tomorrow. I was going to see her yesterday and made a pass through Payless Shoes. I can't tell you how much I LOVE CHEAP SHOES!!! I go for quantity not quality. Their air walks are really pretty nice shoes and for 14 bucks and two seasons or more you just can't beat it. Oh, I have a couple pair of better shoes but for every day knocking around I want these. I finally got a pair of those crock looking things. Ugly as hell but they are so fabulously comfy! Wonder how they work in ice? I am a skidder and faller.
I know I have said this before but the prices in the grocery store are so awful. It's no wonder America is fat when you get noodles and carb like things so much cheaper than you can get fresh lettuces and fruits. It just ticks me off all over again when I go in the store.
Tip: Best Choice White Cake mix, is the best cake on the shelf. It usually costs anywhere from 69 to 89 cents a box and tastes like bakery cake. I made one for mom tonight and used that seven minute frosting on it. I mixed a couple of serving spoons of lemon curd with some of it and used that as the filling.
Tip2: I read this somewhere and it works so good. If you have leftover pizza warm it up in a skillet. It makes the crust crispy and you can flip it over to warm the top if you want. There is enough grease in a pizza it won't stick.
Since Slim told me that she doesn't give Tay artificial colors or flavors I have been reading the ingredients more than usual. I have been finding the cheaper brands have less artificial things and less ingredients. Best Choice also makes a new baked chip. I got them but haven't tried them. No artificial color or flavors.
Kiddo is real hyper so I thought while he was at my house we would give him less of that kind of thing. The kid loves meat. I never saw that with a kid. He was over here and I made a baggie of ham just browned on the stove and he ate most of the bag.
I also found some Danish butter cookies that don't have artificial flavors or colors but have a "butter aroma". What the heck is that and how does it get in there?
I baked a pie, we tried it, and I froze it to have Thanksgiving. It was hyiidra's filling recipe and my crust. Good stuff! That darn pie was so heavy I needed my backup beeper and a crane just to get it out of the oven. Three pounds of apples!
I buy Choc. Covered Cherries for my whole family. The women. I found some at the Dollar Tree and decided to try them. I don't usually do this and when I got it home it said watch out for pits or partial pits. I decided maybe that wasn't such a good idea so opened the box and tried one. No cherry. So you get the pits and no cherry. By the time the women in my family get to their 50's they usually quit eating much and just eat chocolate and drink coffee. I guess it doesn't hurt them. Most of them live almost to 90.
I realize this is all about food but that is what I am doing now. Lots of it.
Webbly did a tut about how to do a reply to comment here.
People are telling what they are thankful for and telling about Holiday memories. Made me think of mine.
One of my relatives had 7 kids, the other 4, this was on my dad's side. We didn't get together every year but when we did we had such a blast. Our house was small and we had pallets all over the floor and everyone spent the night. My aunt and uncle had one of those old round cornered air stream trailers. Both uncles worked pipeline. When they were home we used to all jam up in the front. The couch was a semicircle and would hold most of us. At night all us kids would get blankets and sit up there and watch scary movies. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a musical family with piano, sax, harmonica, organ and banjo players. We always had a big sing-a-long after we ate. Fun times.
I'm thankful just to be.
