Playing With Gradients and Effects

I am always amazed at what you can do with the basic effects in PSP X.  I was playing with gradients the other day and have so many compliments on the tile of my Multiply background I thought I would show you how I did it and the different things you can do with gradients.
I wanted to use bright colors so they would show here.  You can use any gradient you choose but I used foreground-background and chose red and blue.  With foreground-background, you choose the two colors you want to use then go to gradients and choose foreground-background and it will use the two colors you chose.

I chose angle 45, repeats 0.
Under the edit I chose radial for the style.
That is the last style in the line.

Get your paint can and fill a 400 x 400 transparent image with your gradient.  I start big and then resize my image if I want later.  That gives you more room to work and makes it easier to see.  I have also found that if you use a little bigger tile on a background it takes a lot less time for the page to load than if you use a very small tile like 100 x 100.  So now you should have your gradient on your image.

Then I used Adjust-blur-Average-31.  I did that twice.

This just makes your tile smoother.
We are playing here so you can do what you like.

Now choose Effects-Distortion Effects-Ripple
Horizontal 10
Vertical 94
Amplitude 100
Wavelength 1
Edge Mode-Repeat

Click ok then go to your Effects-
Image Effects-Seamless tile-default.
Default is in your presets, which you see at the top of this box or just click on the arrow beside the preset box.

This is my tile.  If you click on the dice in ripple you can get some really amazing tiles.

This one is done using the X Brassy Blonde gradient which is more the same tones in the gradient instead of such a difference in tones, using the Adjust-Blur-Average-31 one time and using the Ripple with the above settings, then using the default seamless tile only setting the transition at 100.
The tile will be more subtle using one that has less difference in colors.
If you click on pattern and find your tile at the first of your patterns.  Set your scale at about 55, click ok then fill another transparent image it will give you an idea of what it will look like on a page as a tile.

Sometimes I will take a tile I have done say in the ripple effect and before I make it a seamless tile I will click on your Effects-Effects Browser and it will bring up your browser showing you all the different things each effect will do to your tile.
This is Effects-Distortion Effects-Wave-and looking at all the examples they have for you to choose from I chose large wave, top far right, clicked ok and then made a seamless tile using default out of it.  I love using the browser because you can click on say large wave and to the right when you choose a pattern there is apply or modify.  You can either use it as is or if you want to tweak it use modify and it will bring up a box with options to change it a little.

Here is the large wave shown at 55 scale used as a pattern.
