Making Brushes Out of Shapes Made From The Oil Brush
Open a transparent image 500 x500. File, new, transparent checked, raster checked.
Go to the bottom of your tools and choose the oil brush. You can use anything you like here but a smoother tool will give you a smoother brush. If you want something rough looking there are some really nice settings in here. Try some of the different presets. For a brush you will want to use black but if you want to use it as something else you could use a color or even select when done and fill with a pattern at a later time.
Now just start making marks on your transparent image. I used the default settings. This is what I made.
If you have psp x and try to move on to the next step the program will prompt you. If it doesn't you need to right click in your layer palette to the right and make this a raster layer.
Take your warp brush and gently start pushing your marks around. Warp is where red ellipse is below. Highlight the left facing black arrow(where the big black arrow is) and change sizes randomly. Using a larger setting for the size will move the whole thing. Smaller sizes can move just small areas.
Above is what I did. It doesn't have to be perfect because what you do next will make it more interesting. Click on the arrow in the green circle when you are done. Where the star is above. This sets your image. Go to your layers palette at the right, right click and duplicate the layer.
Go to Image at the top of your work space, and click on mirror. This will be the end result of your brush. Merge visible(there will be a blank image on the bottom, you can merge that too or right click and delete), right click in your layers palette, merge visible, go to file, save as png file extension or file, export brush and start using it right away.
This is what mine ended up looking like. You can even do this pushing around a picture or free fractals you can get off the internet or make yourself or just about anything. I downloaded the free program Apophysis and made some fractals of my own to use. If you use something that is not black you can use your Adjust, brightness and contrast and make brightness in the negative max and make an image black, use negative image, or greyscale, the last two which are under your Image heading.
