Car Dealing

My husband loves to haggle. He especially loves to haggle with car salesmen. It is like a hobby for him. He pours over the classifieds every week. He will even haggle over the sale of something for a friend.

We have company trucks that need to be bought and sold and traded so he always looks forward to that. I on the other hand don't even want to be in the same room while he is doing it. I can not stand it. I generally can get a good deal because when someone else starts to haggle with me I just tell them what I want and walk away.

My husband on the other hand loves for this business to go on for a week or two.

We are in the process of trading cars. He actually told me he would be sad when he got what he wanted because then he wouldn't get to haggle any more. Is this a guy thing? Do all you guys like to do this?

They found the car we wanted to trade for but it was on another lot so when he got what he wanted they were supposed to go get it and do some more stuff to it and call us. We went ahead and took our car in and left them a check. They called day before yesterday and told us that the other lot sold the car. I couldn't believe this. Do they not put a hold on a car when a dealership is in the process of selling it?

So my husband came home after talking to the salesman and was happy because now he is even going to get more stuff on another car because they would have to make it right. Back to dealing.

The salesman we are working with is definately not a high pressure salesman. He is very laid back and I really like him. MrP says that when he goes in to haggle some more this salesman looks like he is going to hyperventilate and passes him off to his boss. The boss looked at MrP(my husband) and shook his head and said, "You are having a blast aren't you?" MrP smiled and said, "You bet!"

After he made the second deal he went to talk to the boss. We have used this dealership quite a bit and most of them recognize my husband. When he walked in the boss said that MrP's face looked better. MrP didn't know what the guy was talking about but went along with it and went in the guys office like he told him to. This guy started asking MrP a lot of work related questions like what kind of hours did he expect, how much experience had he had, how much pay he expected. MrP told him he would like to have at least 45 thousand a year. He just cracks me up. He was just answering all this guys questions. He finally had to tell the guy he was there to talk to him about the car not to get a job. MrP just kept smiling and playing along. Funny man. The thing about the face...the acutual guy that wanted the job had worked there one day and had gotten a really bad burn on his face. They told MrP he had healed up nicely. He thanked them. You gotta love him!

That's rich. I go in to interview for a job, and they think I am there to sell something! LOL> I hate haggling. I set a price I expect to be paid, and that's it. I also expect someone else to set their price. I don't have time to bargain back and forth. When I go to buy a car, I always ask to speak to the guy who can accept the offer.

Ya its fun to negotiate at the dealership. But I don't even bother anymore. My friend gets me into the dealership auctions so I bypass the middle man and bid on the vehicle for wholesale. Although I think those days are over too; my friend left car sales and became a police officer. He might still have his connections. As for cars being sold from under you...I test drove a truck one day and the very next day I go in to do the deal and it had 200 more miles on the odom. Guess what...more negotiations....hehehehe

We have a friend that deals used cars only and he goes to the auction. You're right, that is the best way to get them but we had a car to trade. LOL, I know it is so weird about car dealerships. Do they think you won't notice that stuff?

when I hear about carsalesmen, the only word that comes to my mind is DISHONESTY, we had a bad experience with a Suzuki dealership,to the tune of $1500$ we hand them a couple checks for the downpayment, they say they would hold them untill my husband got paid,we go in to pay for the "hold checks" and get a reciept but not he check, they say they will "Mail" it to us,they cashed them...BOTH OF THEM...we took the car back and said they could make the payments....

I know, it happens more than most people know I think. MrP just knows how to deal with them. Also I think this is a pretty good bunch of guys. We have dealt with them more than once and they have always made it right.
