It's Not Bar-B-Q

Well, this is a recipe I made tonight. It has been so hot this summer I just can not make myself heat up the house, or stand over a smokin hot grill. So this is my recipe contribution. Dub, my new friend, is having a recipe contest. You guys can pick up some yummy recipes if you go over to Dub's place and follow the links.

I have hot sandwiches. It is filling and certainly better than subway, but at the same time the oven or broiler is not on a long time.

I used an Italian bread which was kind of tough but any bread will work. Sourdough or some substantial bread holds up better to dressings and tomatoes. I just pop the bread in the toaster. Layer it with ham and turkey or ham and any other shaved or thin sliced meat will work. On this particular sandwich I splurged and got some roasted garlic cheese sliced thin. You can put it in the broiler or in a 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted or bubbly. Take it out, layer it with pepper strips, shredded lettuce, thin sliced onion, and thin sliced tomato. If I have a crowd I put down a buffet of condiments. Different kinds of olives are good too. I usually just use what I have. Then I drizzle my homemade dressing over it all.

Dressing-Use any salad dressing type bottle, fill it halfway with balsamic vinegar, pour in a package of dry, Zesty Italian mix, shake well and fill the bottle up the rest of the way with fat free Italian Dressing. Shake well again. This dressing is so good we use it on salads and as a marinade as well.

Then serve it up with some fried potatoes and a little bit of chow chow or pickles and you have an easy meal.

On the fried potatoes I cut the potatoes up directly into a colander, rinse well and sprinkle about 2 to 3 Tablespoons of flour and 2 to 3 Tablespoons of corn meal. I prefer to fry in vegetable shortening. I think it gives it a better flavor. But you can use oil as well.

I was going to be silly and make pigs in a blanket because hey, sometimes it was the only thing my kids would eat and we love em with lots of mustard, but I opened the can of rolls and they had molded. In the can! EWWWW!

Those sandwiches look great. Don't eat sammiches that often but a really great sub can't be beat. W
Especially toasted with melty garlic cheese. yum.

Hey Red, that looks yummy!

We are also big sandwich eaters around here too (BLT's lately, for obvious reasons).

I was gonna go and look at everybodys entries and then go eat b'fast but after looking at you and C.A.'s offorings I think I'd better fix me a something to eat right now - perhaps a b'fast sandwich with shaved ham!

Thanks for joining my list and participating in our little 360 "grubfest".

That counts as a vote for you!

Sure Bully, it would all be kind of smushed though. lol
I know but I am not good at cooking steak Butterfly.
Chow chow is a relish, somewhat like sweet relish but not as sweet. You can get it mild or hot.
